Divya Manian

Product Manager, Adobe

An influential force (just ask her 17k+ Twitter followers), this Product Manager at Adobe can frequently be seen sharing her views on technology at conferences all over the world. A South India native, Divya is passionate about women and minorities in technology and closing the gap for good.

What does it feel like to be a woman in technology?

Being the only woman on a team makes you be a little bit more cautious about how you are. As a minority, you feel conscious about how your reactions are going to be observed by the majority. I think it's ridiculous that people think programming is a masculine thing, that thought would never even arise in my mind. I feel strongly about getting more diversity into tech. I think the conversations are happening, it's just not there yet.

What advice would you give to your 18 year old self?

Take chances. Don't feel risk-averse.

Have you ever had a wardrobe malfunction?

I was speaking at a conference in Singapore when both my bra straps snapped. I spent the whole talk being conscious about my bra showing and falling down. I later saw a woman tweeting about how distracting it was!

What do you do to be more conscious about the environment?

I am very conscious of what I am buying and how long I am going to use or need that product for. I also choose not to invest in companies whose practices I know harm the planet.
